Couldn't have said it better!

After reading Matt Foreman's, Executive DirectorNational Gay and Lesbian Task Force, comment on Jerry Halwell's death, all I could say to myself was, "I couldn't have said it better."

Here is what he said:

“The death of a family member or friend is always a sad occasion and we express our condolences to all those who were close to the Rev. Jerry Falwell. Unfortunately, we will always remember him as a founder and leader of America’s anti-gay industry, someone who exacerbated the nation’s appalling response to the onslaught of the AIDS epidemic, someone who demonized and vilified us for political gain and someone who used religion to divide rather than unite our nation.”

If there is one thing (OK maybe two) to learn is that we need to:

First, recognize the hate and the lies being propgated and try to never let it happen again; and,

Second, stop giving people like this a platform to spread there hate and lies.

That means, we need to stop allowing access to mass media outlets that allow them a voice. Sounds a little idealistic, but it should start somewhere. All I can do is change the channel - its not much but it's a start.
